Turn the beat up

March 14, 2012

Is global warming such a bad thing? I don’t think Indianapolis folks mind it too much given it’s been 75 and sunny this past week! Amazing! Every day I look forward to getting off work just so I can go outside and run. Some people can run without music. Not me. I need the beat to keep moving. There’s just something about a song and its rhythm that pushes me further.

My iPod is my best workout companion. When new songs come out that get me going, I add them to my workout mix. It is an ever-growing mix. Some songs stay for months, others may be on it for a couple of weeks. I also like variety—everything from Rihanna to Good Charlotte. Here are my top 10 that have surpassed the five-month mark.

  • The Show Goes On, Lupe Fiasco
  • Party Rock Anthem, LMFAO
  • We Are Young, Fun, feat. Janelle Monae
  • Ni**as in Paris, Kanye West & JAY Z
  • I’m On A Boat, The Lonely Island, feat. T-Pain
  • Bottoms Up, Trey Songz, feat. Nicki Minaj
  • Dynomite, Taio Cruz
  • Give Me Everything, Pitbull, feat. Ne-Yo
  • Single Ladies, Beyonce
  • Heard The World, OAR

What songs are on your list? I’m always looking for fresh hits.

Super Bowl XLVI

February 11, 2012

On Sunday, February 5, the city of  Indianapolis did something it never thought it would get the chance to do–host a Super Bowl.

Indianapolis didn’t just host the Super Bowl, we blew everyone away and set the bar high (can you tell I’m a bit biased?). Indy was, by far, the best Super Bowl host city the NFL had ever seen! Working one block away from Super Bowl village certainly had its perks. I was in front of the action all week long.  I’m not going to dive into all the greatness that Indy provided–just too much to name–but I did have a chance to capture pictures from the week. From the Super Bowl Media Party, to the zipline, to the Maxim Party, hamster wheels and more; it was a week I’ll never forget. I even got a shot of THE Herm Edwards. Be sure to check out the pictures, as well as this Indianapolis Super Bowl time-lapsed video.

Have you buzzfunneled?

January 30, 2012

In case you haven’t heard, Indianapolis is hosting Super Bowl XLVI!! To capture all the event action, Borshoff created buzzfunnel.me, a single, integrated social media site featuring event experiences from the fan perspective. We hope to connect people from around the world and offer them an inside look of Indianapolis and the big game!

The Borshoff crew has been going out in street teams to capture tons of video footage that has then funneled to the site. People can also upload their own videos to YouTube or Vimeo and tag with “buzzfunnel.” Tweets from @buzzfunnelme stream live to the site, as do tweets using the following hashtags: #SuperBowl, #SB46, #Social46 and #buzzfunnel.

To read more about buzzfunnel, check out this Borshoff blog or follow @buzzfunnelme on Twitter.

Oh yeah–and check out the SITE!

Painting Indy Green for St. Patrick’s Day

March 16, 2011

Tomorrow is St. Patrick’s Day! It’s funny…all through grade school, I understood St. Patrick’s Day to be the day when people wore green to school. If you didn’t, you were destined to be pinched. It was a fun holiday to celebrate. However, I never fully appreciated the holiday until college and even more after college. St. Patrick’s Day may be one of the greatest adult holidays ever! It’s pretty much on the same level as Cinco de Mayo and Halloween; it’s that awesome.

It wasn’t until after college that I realized that Indianapolis celebrates St. Patrick’s Day wholeheartedly. Every year, during the month of March, the city takes part in its annual St. Patrick’s Day Celebration.  Events include a Shamrock Run & Walk (took place March 12), the Greening of the Canal (March 17), Tent Party and Irish Citizen Award (March 17), and the annual parade (March 17). This year will be the 31st annual parade. Impressive!

Last year, through work, I was able to participate in the parade through a community service opportunity. I was amazed by the number of people who came out to celebrate!  There were floats, news media and thousands of people lining the streets downtown. Not surprisingly, the bars were packed and bombarded with Irish and Irish-loving citizens enjoying their green beers. Festive Irish music fills the streets—bag pipes strong and kilts perfectly pleaded. It’s really a great time.

This year, I am not participating in the parade but some of my coworkers and I plan to eat lunch along the parade route (no drinking, of course). I’m pumped!

If you are planning to be downtown for the celebration, some of my favorite bars (that partake in festivities) include The Claddagh, The Rathskellar and O’Reilly’s Irish Pub.

For more information about Indy’s St. Patrick’s Day Celebration and the parade route, visit: http://www.indystpats.com/index.htm.

Want to celebrate more? Check out Indy’s Irish Fest. The 16th Annual Irish Fest will be September 16-18, 2011.  I went last year and it was definitely a day to remember.

Finally, just because…“An-one seen a leprechaun, say yeeeaaaa.”

Everyone have a great (and safe) St. Patrick’s Day!

Never Too Late

November 9, 2010

Amongst all the work, traveling and life-living—I think I failed to acknowledge that I am still in graduate school. Would you believe that I have only four classes left in this semester? It has flown by! The class I am currently in is Public Relations Planning. I think I touched on it a bit back in August, but this course explores the advanced management techniques for public relations programs and campaigns. So what have I been learning [more] about? Research and evaluation techniques, goals and objectives development, segmentation of audiences, development of strategies and tactics, and working within timelines and budgets–just to name a couple of things!

The class has been going great as it’s a solid reminder of what constitutes effective PR planning for campaign development. Throughout the course, my classmates and I have received four case studies to analyze in four areas: community relations, media relations, issues management and crisis communications. In the case studies, it has been our job (as the student) to illuminate and illustrate on the concepts I’ve learned thus far in class.

As the course begins to wind-down, I’m currently working on a PR plan with four of my classmates.  My team and I sought out a nonprofit organization with project and/or campaign planning needs. The organization we are working with is Never Too Late. Never Too Late is an Indianapolis-based nonprofit whose mission is “to bring joy [to seniors] by granting them a wish.” In other words, it’s kind of  like the Make a Wish Foundation but for senior citizens. Never Too Late fulfills wishes of terminally ill and elderly individuals ages 65 and older. Wishes range from meeting celebrities to filling basic needs, depending on the individual’s particular request, which typically takes two weeks to grant.

I’ve worked with Never Too Late’s president and founder Bob Haverstick before and I just can’t seem to get away (in a good way)! Like many nonprofits, this organization has such a unique mission. And as a granddaughter who has been given nothing but love from grandparents—research, planning and campaign development is the least I can do to help a worthy organization like Never Too Late.

So what is the goal?  My PR dream team and I are currently generating a communications framework that will sustain Never Too Late operations. We are preparing research, developing objectives, strategies and tactics, working within a tight budget and creating an evaluation mechanism. At the end of the semester, we will present to not only the class, but Haverstick as well. Let’s hope all goes well!

If you are interested in learning more about Never Too Late or getting involved, I encourage you to visit its website: www.nevertoolate.org. You can also submit wish requests!
